There is a class action lawsuit pending in Multnomah County Circuit Court. The case is brought on behalf of former and current students of Western Culinary Institute, which is now called Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Portland. Members of the class may be entitled to recover money damages in the form of tuition refunds and prejudgment interest.
The class action lawsuit alleges that Western Culinary Institute and Career Education Corp. failed to disclose certain information pertaining to the nature and value of the education offered to Students. The Plaintiff claims that by omitting such information, Western Culinary Institute and Career Education Corp. committed fraud and violated the Unlawful Trade Practices Act in ways that caused financial damage to him and members of the class.
The class consists of all current and former students who enrolled at Western Culinary Institute; now known as Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Portland, on or after March 5, 2006 (up to and including March 1, 2010), who attended Western Culinary Institute/Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Portland on or after March 5, 2006 (up to and including March 1, 2010), and who made tuition payments or incurred financial obligations, excluding where applicable all officers and directors of defendants, attorneys for the class, any judge who sits on the case, and any student who did not continue his or her studies due to academic ineligibility.
Western Culinary Institute and Career Education Corp. deny the alleged claims. They contend that they fully disclosed what they were required to disclose to the class members and that their alleged omissions did not cause injuries to any class member.
